Race previews Dam tot Damloop

01 July 2014, 7am

The largest running event in the Netherlands will become a two-day sports festival this year, with a record number of 65,000 runners participating in the Dam tot Damloop on the weekend of 20–21 September.

A two-day jubilee

Dam tot Damloop
Sun 21 September 2014

A highlight of the 30th anniversary edition will be the new Damloop by night on Saturday evening. Dressed in special ASICS running shirts,15,000 runners will cover a distance of four miles (6.4 km) in the dark, through the liveliest streets of Zaandam.

The traditional 10-mile race takes place on Sunday. Starting from the Prins Hendrikkade, close to Amsterdam’s Central Station, the race enters the IJtunnel and comes out into the extravagantly-decorated streets of Amsterdam North, which are lined with dozens of live music bands and DJs. The climax of the event is in Zaandam, where 250,000 spectators gather around the finish and create an unique atmosphere.

The 10-mile event sold out within a few hours. Places are still available for the Damloop-by-night 4 miles.
