Osaka Marathon
Sun 22 February 2026
The Osaka Marathon, to be held on Sunday, 22 February 2026, will mark its 14th year under the slogan “Let’s create a rainbow together.” The event sees 34,000 runners take to the streets of Osaka, passing some of the city’s most famous landmarks and historic sites.
The course starts in front of the Osaka Prefectural Office, adjacent to Osaka Castle Park, and runs along the main road Midosuji, a symbol of Osaka’s commercial capital, before finishing in the park with views of Osaka Castle.
On this day public roads in central Osaka will be opened to runners, allowing them to run on major city streets that are normally off-limits. The marathon route has one uphill/downhill section and three turnaround points, making it a fast course that has seen good times recorded. The completion rate is over 95%, including first-time marathon runners.
With a million people cheering along the road runners are “motivated and energized,” and 10,000 volunteers are there to support them to the best of their ability. In addition to cheering from the roadside there will also be performances by the “Runner Support Squad” along the marathon course, including dancing, cheerleading, brass band music, and Japanese drumming.
A wide variety of meals are provided to support runners. In addition to Osaka specialties and famous sweets, the popular “Maido Aid” supports runners with dried fruit, takoyaki, candy, and more. The Osaka Marathon EXPO will be held at INTEX Osaka before the race, where runners can check in and also enjoy delicious Osaka food and specialties at the “Umaimon Market.”
Why not enjoy the marathon, cheering, sightseeing, and food to your heart’s content in the city that hosted the Osaka-Kansai Expo?
