Gyeongju Marathon
Sat 17 October 2026
The Gyeongju Marathon offers runners a journey through one of Korea’s most historic and atmospheric cities, where the rhythm of running meets the heritage of a thousand-year-old capital.
On Saturday 17 October runners will gather at Gyeongju Civic Stadium to take part in one of Korea’s most memorable road races. The event features a full marathon, half marathon and a 10km race, welcoming everyone from experienced marathoners chasing a personal best to recreational runners seeking out a unique destination race.
Gyeongju was once the capital of the ancient Silla Kingdom and today the city remains a living museum of Korean history. Along the course, and throughout their stay, participants can experience the spirit of this remarkable city known for its royal tombs, ancient temples, traditional architecture and UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Landmarks such as Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto and Cheomseongdae Observatory reflect the depth of Gyeongju’s cultural legacy, while the city’s calm streets and scenic surroundings create an inspiring setting for runners.
The race takes place in October, one of the most beautiful seasons in Korea. Clear autumn skies, cool temperatures and the changing colours of the landscape make Gyeongju an ideal place to run. The course offers a comfortable yet memorable racing experience, combining open views, gentle urban scenery and the distinctive atmosphere of a city where history is present at every turn.
The Gyeongju Marathon is also a race to be enjoyed beyond the finish line. Before and after the event, runners can explore historic sites, walk through traditional neighbourhoods, enjoy local cuisine and discover the quiet charm of Korea’s ancient capital. For international participants in particular the event provides an excellent opportunity to combine running, culture and travel in a single weekend.
Organised by the Dong-A Marathon Organising Committee, the Gyeongju Marathon is designed to provide a safe and well-supported race experience. Aid stations, medical support, baggage storage and participant services are prepared to help runners focus on their performance and enjoy the day with confidence.
Whether aiming for a strong finish, sharing the road with fellow runners, or discovering Korea through sport, participants in the Gyeongju Marathon will find a race that leaves a lasting impression. In Gyeongju every kilometre carries the story of history, nature and the joy of running.
