Estra Firenze Marathon
Sun 29 November 2026
Running the Firenze Marathon means experiencing something beyond a sporting event.
The 42nd edition, scheduled for Sunday, 29 November, confirms itself as an unmissable event for every runner. Late November offers ideal conditions: the weather is perfect for running and the timing allows for optimal preparation after the summer break. The event boasts an extraordinary completion rate, a sign that nearly all participants successfully cross the finish line.
The true masterpiece of the Firenze Marathon is its course – an enchanting journey through the historic centre and the iconic landmarks of the cradle of the Renaissance. The spectacular start and monumental finish take place in the breathtaking setting of Piazza Duomo. Along the 42.195 kilometres runners pass through the Cascine Park, the city’s green heart, before immersing themselves in the authentic atmosphere of the Oltrarno district.
Participants are captivated by the unique views along the Arno riverbanks, the crossing of the world-famous Ponte Vecchio, and the route passing by the Basilica of Santa Croce, all supported by the warmth of countless spectators and the energy of 2500 tireless volunteers.
The event is experiencing remarkable international growth, becoming one of the world’s most important marathons. In 2025, it achieved a perfect balance between Italian athletes (50%) and international runners (50%). Among the most represented countries are France, followed by the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Germany. After reaching a record 13,200 registrations in 2025, the event is now aiming for the ambitious goal of 15,000 participants in 2026.
The marathon weekend begins during the two preceding days with the Expo Firenze Marathon. This impressive indoor exhibition village, covering approximately 4,500 square metres, is open to the public from morning until evening. In its latest edition, it hosted 90 exhibitor stands, becoming the perfect place for enthusiasts and industry professionals to discover the latest innovations.
On Sunday morning, the 10K race also takes place – a competitive, FIDAL-certified event launched in 2024. With around 3,000 participants, it follows the final 10 kilometres of the marathon course and also finishes in Piazza Duomo. It is the perfect solution for companions or anyone who wants to experience the magical atmosphere of the Florence Marathon without tackling the full distance.
Running in Florence means leaving your footprints where beauty was born, breathing in history with every stride and being carried away by an emotion that takes your breath away long before the finish line. When your eyes meet centuries of history reflected on the facades of ancient buildings, and you hear the roar of the crowd welcoming you into Piazza Duomo, you will understand that you have become part of a moving work of art.
