Sarmang Dehradun Marathon
Sun 4 October 2026
On 4 October 2026 runners from across India and around the world will gather in Dehradun for the fifth edition of the Sarmang Dehradun Marathon, one of the fastest-growing road races in northern India.
Nestled in the Doon Valley between the Himalayan foothills and the Shivalik range, Dehradun offers a distinctive setting for distance running. The city combines wide roads, green avenues and a pleasant autumn climate, creating ideal conditions for runners across all distances.
The event features six race categories: 51km Ultra, Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km, 5km and 2km. The introduction of the 51km Ultra in 2026 marks a significant step in the race’s evolution and reflects the growing endurance sports culture of Uttarakhand.
Race morning begins before sunrise. As runners assemble at the start line the city slowly awakens below the surrounding hills. The cool air, the anticipation among participants and the first light of day create a memorable atmosphere long before the race begins.
The course takes runners through some of Dehradun’s most recognisable roads and neighbourhoods. Tree-lined stretches, views towards the Himalayan foothills and enthusiastic local support combine to create an experience that is both challenging and enjoyable. The route is suitable for seasoned marathoners chasing a personal best as well as first-time runners taking on their first race.
What truly defines the Sarmang Dehradun Marathon is its community spirit. The event brings together elite runners, recreational athletes, families, students, defence personnel and fitness enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds. Thousands of spectators, volunteers and supporters help create a welcoming environment that reflects the warmth and hospitality for which Uttarakhand is known.
For many participants, the race is an opportunity to experience the culture, landscapes and energy of a region often referred to as the Gateway to the Himalaya. Beyond the finish line, visitors can explore nearby attractions including Rishikesh, Mussoorie and the upper Himalayan valleys that have inspired generations of adventurers and endurance athletes.
As the Sarmang Dehradun Marathon celebrates its fifth edition, it continues to grow as a platform for health, fitness and community participation. Whether running the inaugural 51km Ultra, tackling the marathon distance or completing a first 5km, participants become part of a shared celebration of endurance and achievement.
